Sapmi (Lapland) - Fifty Shades of White
Sapmi (commonly known as Lapland is the cultural region of the Sami people) about 150 km north of the arctic circle. The first pictures were taken arround the Muonio River, materializing the border between Sweden and Finland. The Pitkäsaari Island in the middle of the Muonio River is a gorgeous place as far as nature and wildlife are concerned. Further pictures were made in Finland nearby Taivalkoski, another amazing place to experience the sound of silence. Disregard where you look at, snow remains the dominant element out there. Combining the reflection and diffraction faculty of snow with the twilight generates impressive color variation.
In February the days start to be long enough to provide impressive lights… and shades.
Great thanks to Lars and Kaisu from Rajaama (nearby Muonio) and to the team of Saija (Taivalkoski) for their hospitality and willingness to share and exchange with me.
